An accident in the Western Reserve kills one person | News, Sports, Jobs


BEAVER TOWNSHIP – A crash on East Western Reserve Road near Victoria Lane that left one person dead remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A police news release said the accident occurred at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday when a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Charles Demetrios, 79, of Canfield, with his passenger Waltraud Demetrios, 83, turned out of a driveway onto Western Reserve Road.

At the same time, a 2021 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Matthew Vallas, 34, of New Middletown, was traveling eastbound on Western Reserve with two minor passengers.

The press release states that Charles Demetrios ignored Vallas’ right of way and was hit by the Blazer.

Demetrios then drove off the road and crashed into several trees. Vallas also drove off the road and came to a stop.

According to the report, Charles Demetrios was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Waltraud Demetrios was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The press release states that Vallas and his passengers were taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman with non-life-threatening injuries.
