California families pay $1.28 more per gallon of gasoline than the national average.

September 4, 2024 – STOCKTON – Representative Josh Harder (CA-9) has Law to reduce gas pricesto lower gasoline prices for families. The bill would temporarily suspend the 18.4 cent federal gasoline tax. Rep. Harder has also called for the suspension of California’s gasoline tax, which was increased in July and costs motorists 59.6 cents per gallon of gasoline. The The average price of a gallon of gasoline in California is $4.65.while the national average is only $3.34.

“Our families pay some of the highest gas prices in the country and it is incredibly frustrating to see the government making it worse,” said MP Harder. “Enough is enough. My bill will repeal the gas tax and put more money in the pockets of hard-working families.”

The Law to reduce gas prices will reduce gas prices by:

  • Suspension of the federal gasoline tax of 18.4 cents per gallon

  • The tax savings would be passed on to Americans, not to oil and gas companies. The Treasury Secretary would oversee the program to ensure that oil and gas companies pass the savings on to consumers at the pump. The bill also requires the Treasury Secretary to take appropriate enforcement actions to ensure that consumers see the savings.

  • Maintaining the integrity of the Highway Trust Fund by requiring the Treasury Department to make general fund transfers to maintain the solvency of the Highway Trust Fund.
