BRS blames Congress for Khammam attack, says CM diverts attention from flood failure – Telangana Today

Hyderabad: The BRS termed the attack on the party leaders by Congress activists in Khammam as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the state government’s failure to provide relief to the flood victims. The BRS leaders blamed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the incident and demanded swift action against those involved.

The attack, which took place on Tuesday, targeted BRS leaders who were distributing food and essential items to flood victims. At least three people were injured in the incident. The vehicles of former ministers T Harish Rao, Puvvada Ajay Kumar and P Sabitha Indra Reddy were also attacked.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Ajay Kumar said the Congress resorted to violence because it was unable to provide adequate relief to flood victims. “When we tried to help the flood victims, we were attacked. This was a clear attempt to distract the public from the government’s failures,” he said. He questioned the usefulness of having three ministers from the erstwhile Khammam district in the state government when it had failed to respond to the crisis at all.

He mocked Revanth Reddy for asking why BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and other BRS leaders did not take relief measures. “We are doing our best within our means, but what is the use of you being the chief minister if we do everything ourselves?” he asked.

The former minister criticised the government for its delayed response to the Munneru river floods that left many residents stranded. He refuted the Chief Minister’s allegations of land grabbing and challenged the government to prove such allegations. He criticised Revanth Reddy for making irresponsible statements instead of addressing the needs of those affected by the floods.

Former MP Balka Suman said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Finance Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy had orchestrated the attack on the BRS leaders. He said Srinivas Reddy had illegally encroached on land of Nagarjuna Sagar canal to construct SR Gardens and demanded the government to start demolishing illegal constructions on these plots. He also questioned the police’s inaction on the attack and demanded an explanation for the lack of response.
