Stephon Gilmore joins the ranks of new starters

With five days until the Vikings’ season opener against the New York Giants, the team released an unofficial Week 1 depth chart on Tuesday. It’s their first depth chart since cutting the roster to 53 players last week.

It’s worth noting that Vikings special teams coordinator Matt Daniels announced running back Ty Chandler as the team’s primary kick returner. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, signed as a free agent two weeks ago, will occupy a starting spot with Byron Murphy Jr. Shaq Griffin and Akayleb Evans are listed as second-teamers, followed by Fabian Moreau and undrafted rookie Dwight McGlothern.

Gilmore is one of five new players on the Vikings’ defensive roster, joining Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, Blake Cashman and Jerry Tillery. The offense has three new starters: quarterback Sam Darnold, running back Aaron Jones and left guard Blake Brandel.

Replacements: Nick Mullens, Brett Rypien
