VIENNA – The Vienna Police Department reported that the agency was informed shortly after noon today about an anonymous tip in connection with Jackson Middle School.

To protect students, Jackson Middle School was immediately cordoned off while officers arrived at the scene, the VPD reported in a press release.

Sergeant AN Harris, Jackson Middle School liaison officer, was already on site when the first alarm came in. Harris’ presence at the school played a key role in the response to the tip and the subsequent investigation, the news release said.

Harris was able to tell officials there was no immediate threat. The curfew was lifted shortly after it was determined it was safe to do so.

The VPD and Wood County Board of Education worked diligently to ensure there was no credible threat to Jackson Middle School. After that was determined, Vienna police and the school board released that information to the public, the release said.

The incident remains under investigation by both parties, the press release said.
