WWE reportedly happy with Tricks Dunne diss track

After being attacked by Pete Dunne at the conclusion of NXT No Mercy on Sunday, Trick Williams released a diss track about Dunne that garnered a huge response on social media.

Williams made several digs at Dunne in the video, calling him “Petey” and calling him by his former name “Butch,” which enraged Dunne and led to his feud with Sheamus on Raw.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Nikunj Walia of Ringside News), WWE officials were “very pleased” with the fan reaction to Trick’s diss track.

The video was mentioned and quoted numerous times on Tuesday night’s episode of NXT, proving that WWE decision-makers were aware that the video had gone viral and was gaining traction within the WWE Universe.

At Tuesday’s NXT match, Williams and Dunne were scheduled to face each other in the main event, but a physical altercation broke out backstage, prompting NXT General Manager Ava to postpone the match mid-show.

What followed was a tough battle that ended in a double count-out as Trick and Dunne both went through the announce table.

This made it clear that the rivalry between Williams and Dunne was far from over, and Ava confirmed this later in the show when she announced a rematch.

On the next edition of NXT, Williams and Dunne will face off in a Last Man Standing match. The winner will challenge Ethan Page for the NXT Championship on the premiere episode of NXT on The CW on October 1.

Rhodes reportedly best WWE merchandise seller in Europe

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes continues to establish himself as arguably the company’s best star, as evidenced by his enormous international popularity.

According to Fightful Select (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), Rhodes was WWE’s leading merchandise seller during its recent European tour, which included the premium live event “Bash in Berlin” in Germany.

The weight belt signed by Rhodes was reportedly the highest-selling WWE merchandise of the entire tour, which shows how big The American Nightmare has become.

Fightful added that CM Punk ranks second in merchandise sales, further solidifying the reasons for his return to WWE last November following his release from AEW.

Like Punk, Rhodes went to AEW before returning to WWE, and he was not only one of the company’s founding members, but also one of its crowd-pullers.

This has obviously carried over to WWE, as Cody has been one of the promotion’s biggest stars since his return at WrestleMania 38 and scored a WWE Title win over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

WWE continues to hype Rhodes up and present him as the figurehead of the company at every opportunity, and Rhodes continues to make WWE look smart with this decision.

With SmackDown moving from Fox to USA Network starting next week, Rhodes is expected to be heavily featured in all promotional campaigns and on the weekly show in general.

WWE reportedly has further plans for Rascalz in NXT

In addition to their numerous recent appearances on NXT, there are reportedly plans for TNA’s The Rascalz to continue appearing on WWE programming for the foreseeable future.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Walia), sources expect TNA X-Division Champions Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel to continue appearing in NXT for at least “the next few months,” and the fact that officials are “incredibly pleased” with Wentz’s work and attitude is a big reason why.

Wentz signed with WWE in late 2020 and wrestled under the name Nash Carter, teaming with Wes Lee to form MSK.

MSK was a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion and won the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but Wentz was released from his WWE contract in 2022 after his ex-wife accused him of domestic violence and a photo circulated that appeared to show Wentz imitating Adolf Hitler.

Wentz resurfaced in TNA and reformed The Rascalz with Miguel. The collaboration between TNA and WWE opened new doors for Wentz in NXT.

When Wentz and Miguel began appearing in NXT, they did so as Lee’s friends and tag team partners, but Lee turned away from them after losing to Nathan Frazer and Axiom for the NXT Tag Team Championship.

This led to a rematch between Wentz and Lee at No Mercy, which Wentz won. Wentz then teamed with Miguel to defeat Gallus and the team of Tank Ledger and Hank Walker to become the #1 contenders for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

With Wentz having notched several major victories recently, all signs point to him being a fixture in NXT despite his status as a wrestler under contract with TNA.
