Police storm drug stash in Delta and arrest 40 suspected dealers

Officers of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 40 drug dealers at the popular Swees Spirit Hotel junction in Asaba, the state capital.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that the police in collaboration with other security forces carried out an operation along the Asaba/Okpanam road near the Midwives Market on Tuesday evening.

According to the findings, the operation was launched after credible intelligence information emerged about a criminal hideout where illegal drug trafficking was rampant and causing significant suffering and damage to society.

A source who declined to disclose his identity told PUNCH on Wednesday that security forces had arrested no fewer than 40 suspects for their involvement in drug trafficking.

He added that the operation was a clear message to all that the security apparatus was determined to eradicate the menace of hard drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the state.

The source said: “During the operation, which was carried out with precision and care, 40 people were arrested for their involvement in illegal drug trafficking.

“The suspects desperately tried to evade arrest and fled into the sewer along Okpanam Road. However, thanks to the swift and coordinated action of the police, they were apprehended.”

Also confirming the report to journalists on Wednesday, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he was aware of the operation, adding that the command would issue a press release on the matter shortly.

He said: “Yes, that’s right. We raided the area last night and arrested 40 suspects. We have yet to make it official, but we plan to issue a press release.”
