SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KSLA) – Shreveport police say they have done a great job this year solving homicides across the city.

“I think that’s the important goal, and I think that’s what we have to keep in mind in our typical day,” said Detective James LeClare.

This week, the Shreveport Police Department released its homicide clearance rate for 2024. According to the homicide department, the clearance rate is 77.5 percent.

“The national average is 50 to 55 percent closure rate. The fact that we’re at 80 percent speaks volumes for Shreveport, but ultimately we’re still grieving. We’re still praying for that 20 percent,” LeClare said.

While these numbers justify the work of the Shreveport Police Department, the force continues to work to solve the crimes listed in its files.

“I would urge the citizens of Shreveport to come forward if they feel a murder has occurred too long ago without justice being served or the family being able to find closure. If they have any information on anything, I would urge them to come forward because no murder is too old for us to make an arrest.”

According to SPD, no case is too old to make an arrest and investigators are always looking for new leads. If you have information about a case, contact police.
