2 people arrested after complaints about companies selling THC-containing foods to minors

HENDERSON COUNTY, NC (FOX Carolina) – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office announced that two people were arrested on multiple drug charges.

Officers executed a search warrant at Vape Star at 614 Spartanburg Hwy. on August 28 after receiving complaints that the store was selling prohibited items and contraband to minors.

Officials said products such as granola bars, candy and cookies contained THC. Deputies said they were unsure how much THC the products contained.

Officers said they seized 431 grams of THC extract, 43.5 grams of marijuana, $3,569 and two weapons.

Khaled Kamal Abougabal Hussein, 60, and Abir Hashem Mohamed Fazly, 53, were arrested on the following charges:

  • Criminal use of a counterfeit trademark
  • Possession with intent to sell/distribute marijuana
  • Maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling/distributing a controlled substance

Both suspects are being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on a $30,000 fine.

The Hendersonville Police Department, the North Carolina Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security assisted.
