Vanessa Decker Presents Two Halloween Horror Nights Mazes: “A Quiet Place” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”

Halloween Horror Parties is back at Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando this month, through Halloween. To get you in the mood, Bloody Disgusting’s Vanessa Decker And Rawl Paredes I took a morning tour of two highly anticipated attractions in Hollywood.

First up, a brand new maze inspired by the A quiet place The franchise, based on the first two films. The maze relies heavily on sound design, with speakers placed closer to visitors as they walk through. Additionally, American Sign Language (ASL) will be used throughout the maze. A deaf actress, who works at Universal, plays Regan in the opening video as visitors enter. The maze’s scare actors have learned ASL, but their role is not to scare — none of them will.

Creative Director John Murdy expressed his excitement for the highly anticipated house, noting that all of the creatures have been built practically since CGI was first used in the movies. The maze features six puppets and four animatronics, each operated by a single puppeteer. Banner sensors throughout the maze will trigger events as guests pass through, making them feel as if they have provoked the creatures to attack.

The second featured maze, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of Leatherfaceis inspired by the original 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Murdy created an original house that runs parallel to the original film’s timeline. It takes place in the slaughterhouse, a location mentioned but never shown in the film. To celebrate the franchise’s milestone, Murdy took a multiverse approach, featuring all nine Leatherfaces from the films. The story focuses on the Sawyer family, who have taken over the abandoned slaughterhouse to cover up their crimes. Murdy’s favorite Leatherface mask is the one from Texas Chainsaw 3D.

The “Halloween Horror Nights” events kicked off Thursday, September 5 in Hollywood and will run on select nights through October 31. Due to high demand, tickets are expected to sell out.
