Boko Haram attack in northeast Nigeria leaves 81 dead

In Nigeria, at least 81 people were killed on Sunday when fighters from the militant group Boko Haram opened fire on villagers in the northeastern state of Yobe. Many survivors said the massacre was in retaliation for the community’s refusal to pay extortion money to Boko Haram fighters. Boko Haram’s 15-year-old insurgency has killed tens of thousands of Nigerians and displaced more than 2 million people.
