Police find loaded weapon in car in Szot Park, 2 people arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WGGB/WSHM) — Two people were arrested after police found a loaded gun in a car in Szot Park.

At around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, detectives were checking Szot Park when they noticed a car parked near the basketball courts.

As the detectives approached the car, the driver turned on his lights and the officers saw that there were two people in the car.

Officers identified the driver as 26-year-old Juan Ramos Borges-Rivera of South Hadley.

Both Rivera and the passenger were charged with trespassing and Rivera was taken into custody.

When officers searched the car, they found a loaded pistol that Rivera did not have a permit to carry.

Rivera faces a number of charges related to weapons possession and trespassing, and the passenger has been charged with similar charges.
