UP villagers kill jackal after it attacked three people – second animal killed in two days – The Week

Kaushambi (UP), Sept 5 (PTI) – Villagers killed a jackal after it allegedly attacked three people, including a child, local officials said on Thursday.
It was said that this was the second jackal killed in the last two days.
A jackal attacked three-year-old Priyanshu in Newari village of Karari district on Wednesday and then attacked one Ramdas (35), who was working in his field in the same village, said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) RS Yadav.
Later, the animal reached Khojpur village and attacked Shivbabu, Yadav said.
The villagers surrounded the animal in Newari area and beat it with sticks, leading to its death later on Wednesday, the DFO said.
The autopsy of the animal confirmed that it was a jackal, Yadav said.
The injured were taken to a hospital where their condition is stable, he said.
On Tuesday, another jackal was killed by villagers in Hamirpur district after it broke into a house and attacked several people in Bilpur village of Jalalpur, officials said.
People in Bahraich and its surrounding areas are living in fear due to a series of suspected wolf attacks. Eight people have been killed and more than 35 injured in these attacks.
The Forest Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Arun Saxena, has given instructions to capture the animals suspected of attacking people in the district.
A team of nine shooters has been sent to the Bahraich forest on the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to shoot the animals attacking people, an official said on Wednesday.
Amid the ongoing man-wildlife conflict in Mahasi tehsil of Bahraich district, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared the area a “wildlife disaster” affected area, a state minister said on Wednesday.
