Authorities identify 4 victims killed in Apalachee High School shooting

Authorities have identified the two 14-year-old students and two teachers who were gunned down in a sickening massacre at a Georgia high school Wednesday morning.

Teenagers Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo were killed along with math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie when suspected gunman Colt Gray, 14, opened fire inside Apalachee High School around 10:30 a.m., authorities said at an evening news conference.

Aspinwall was also an assistant coach for the Winder-based school’s football team and served as its defensive coordinator, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Eight students and a teacher, earlier identified as David Phenix, were also injured in the massacre.

All nine injured people are expected to survive, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said.

Gray was taken into custody shortly after he began firing an AR-15-style weapon and is expected to be charged as an adult.

“And I just want to ask all Georgians and all Americans to continue to keep these families, these educators and these students in their thoughts and prayers,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said Wednesday night.

“And we will provide the state with all the resources it needs until they are no longer needed. To support this community and to support this team that is behind me.”

Police said they were examining a large amount of evidence in search of a motive behind the bloodshed.

But Gray had been on the FBI’s radar for more than a year before the shooting, the feds revealed.

The office received several reports of threats of a school shooting in May 2023, which led the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to interview the boy and his father.

At the time, authorities said they had no valid reason to make an arrest or take other action.
