Residents express concern over recent dog attacks in Caldwell neighborhood

CALDWELL, Texas (KRHD) — Residents in the Copperas Hollow neighborhood in Caldwell are reporting the presence of aggressive dogs. Now, a person who was attacked by the animals is warning the community.

  • Local resident Aletza Torres said her dog was attacked and her sister’s dog was killed by two dogs, a German Shepherd and a dog of an unknown breed.
  • Torres says other residents have reported similar experiences and she hopes action will be taken.
  • The city of Caldwell has ordinances that prohibit dogs from roaming freely and attacking people.
  • A court hearing regarding the dangerous dogs is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Civic Center in Caldwell.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

For neighbors like Aletza Torres, the community of Copperas Hollow is pretty quiet.

“I would say this is a pretty safe community,” she said.

Until she let her dog out on April 26th.

“We hear what sound like screaming and howling… and we see the two dogs hovering over her,” Torres said.

Two dogs – a German Shepherd and an unknown breed – from the neighborhood were attacked.

“We saw her limping – both of her hind legs had puncture wounds – and she was just bleeding,” she said. “It was very scary and traumatic.”

But it would not be the last time.

In August they attacked again and killed her sister’s dog.

“When you grow up with a pet, it’s definitely sad to see it go, no matter what. But especially when it gets attacked or killed by another dog, it’s worse,” Torres said.

Now she is warning the public on social media about the dangers posed by the animals.

“We have a lot of children here or even parents, people who run around here in the morning or evening for jogging,” she said.

I contacted the city’s animal control officer, who told me that they do indeed hear of animal attacks.

But nothing can be done if it is not officially reported.

There are ordinances in the city designed to prevent dogs from running around freely and attacking people.

Aletza tells me that her dog is now scared.

“Jumping, running fast, she doesn’t do things like that anymore,” she said.

And she hopes that something will be done.

“I don’t want anyone else to get attacked or lose their dog,” Torres said.
