911 call from teen shot by intruder reveals killer still at large two years later

A newly released 911 call revealed an Arizona teenager’s final moments as she spoke with first responders after being shot in her home in 2022.

Rachel Hansen was just 19 when the shooting happened. Two years later, her killer has still not been caught and her family hopes the details of the call will prompt someone to come forward with information.

“I was shot,” Hansen told the 911 dispatcher, giving her home address. “Somebody broke in and shot me … Please hurry, please hurry. Oh (redacted) I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding.”

Police also released blurry body camera videos, AZ Family reported. No 911 audio recordings were released, only the transcript was released.

“Do you have a clean rag that you can squeeze? Is there anyone with you?” the dispatcher asked, according to the transcript.

Hansen told the dispatcher the shooter entered her home, shot her and left. She said she was alone.

“Do you have a cloth, shirt or towel nearby that you could use?” the dispatcher asked, to which Hansen replied, “No.”

“Is there anything near you? Rachel, I need you to talk to me, okay?” the dispatcher said.

“I can’t,” Hansen replied.

Gilbert Police and Fire Departments arrived within five minutes, and body camera footage shows them telling a neighbor they need to conduct a security operation. Another body camera shows a police officer with a rifle securing the scene.

Hansen was taken to hospital, where she later died of her injuries, and the case has since been closed.

Hansen’s mother, who works with a private investigator, urged anyone with information to contact her.

“If anyone sees this for the first time or hears this or if it rekindles something, please remember to contact Silent Witness,” she said. AZ family.

“It’s been extremely difficult to continue living and doing what we have to do every day without Rachel and without having answers.”

The heartbroken mother added that she wished the audio recording of the 911 call had been made public.

She added: “We wanted to hear our daughter’s voice and her last words, so we were disappointed that it was just a transcription.”

Silent Witness is offering up to $7,000 for information in this case.
